This is a journey to find a home, health, and fitness. This is a fitness and health blog, but it’s so much more than that too.
"The Long Walk Back" – I lived in Japan for 3 years and I've just moved back to Canada. I'm starting a new life, and building a new home but figuring out how to keep my healthy lifestyle; I'm heading "back" and trying to stay healthy while I do. In Japan I had been walking (or biking) back and forth to work, wind, rain, snow, or shine. The name seems to fit this life I live :) Walking home and walking around my town was how I started my healthy life. Follow me while I try to keep it up!

There’s this magical thing called Savor, an event in town where all the great restaurants have booths and samples of their dishes. They’re like little sliders of a main meal, and you walk around sampling all the food. There’s also all the micro breweries and wineries too… so lots of booze and food.
I didn’t even know about it until yesterday, when a friend called me up and said to shower, cause she had an extra ticket (her husband was sick and she needed a date). No big deal, the two tickets only cost $150….
I was in heaven. I ate all the food. I was so full, then I ate all the deserts. Then I shoved more deserts into a plastic bag in my purse, haha (keeping in classy). I’m already planning on how I can afford to go with Chris next year. it was literally a giant room of food samples. I’m the girl that gets excited when there’s samples of bread at a grocery store…Can you imagine me at this thing?
For 2 people no less :)
Well, some of you might remember my little quip last week about doing “Whole 30” for a week this week. That didn’t end up happening; I looked at my bank account and decided that I’ll have to work with a lot of food that I already have, haha. But I’m pretty pleased with how “healthy” I’ve been able to keep the meal plan this week, even with going super cheep. Here’s a few tips:
1. We had a lot of food already at the house (not included in the $53, so really I’d guess the bill might be $60 total if I worked it all out). I buy large amounts for a better price (bulk always ends up costing less in the long run). Brown rice, potatoes, ww flour… I even get ground beef in a bulk (5kg) bag from the butcher and re-package it in smaller freezer bags.
2. One of the grocery stores here have a “2 for 1” weeks each month. I always stock up on things when the second one is free! Last month it was free bacon and bags of apples :)
3. I go to 2 or 3 stores; starting with the place I know is the most discounted (the local butcher’s in my case) and ending at the regular grocery store.
4. I always, always make a meal plan for the week, then a grocery list off of that plan. There is hardly ever any wasted food in our house. (side note with this - always make enough at dinner for leftovers for lunch the next day)
5. I stay away from processed & prepackaged food as much as possible. The extent of packaged food is a few sauces or seasoning packets each month.
If you can’t tell, I’m pretty proud of myself. Last year we were spending around $150 a week for the two of us. Now I’d say once a month I ‘stock up’ on some extra stuff and spend $100, then the rest of the month it’s around $60 a week for groceries. We even get a few ‘treats’ a week; last week it was popcorn and this week I got store made cookies, then made banana bread at home.
Want to see my meal plan for this week? Sure you do! (lunch is always leftovers from the night before)

One of the workers came upstairs and asked to use the bathroom. Saw me in my house coat, saw the messy house.
I’ll be glad when the floor is done.
when you realise you’ve eaten more than the rest of your friends at a party
Haha… I’m always that person.
I had a great walk this morning. Chris walked up to the bus (35 mins) and I took Sky with him for most of the way and then came back home. It was nice to walk with him and good to see him trying to get some exercise.
When I got all “bundled up” to go out, he looked and laughed at me then said, “I’m going to report you to the ‘What Not to Wear’ people”. Can you imagine!?!? Here I was all warm and comfortable and he says THAT! A beautiful bright pink hat, massive scarf, winter dress jacket, big white knit mitts, and bright pink baggy snowboarding pants. If only I had a picture, I know you all would fully support how glorious I looked.
My cousin (who I was pretty close to growing up, went to the same high school, he dated all my friends in junior high, lol) just had their baby!
IT WAS A HOME BIRTH AND THE MIDWIFE DIDN’T MAKE IT IN TIME SO MY COUSIN DELIVERED THE BABY HIMSELF!! His partner used a birthing tub and holy crap they are a super-couple or something… I can’t even imagine!
